Yes, a marriage certificate is required for a divorce in Ontario.  

You must submit your original marriage certificate with your divorce application. If your certificate is not in English or French, you’ll need a certified translation. If you cannot obtain your marriage certificate, you must explain why in Form 36: Affidavit for Divorce.
